The accused persons are 32 year-old Balogun Adedayo; 39 year-old Folajuwon Salako; Yekini Hammed, 29; Christopher Okpanyi, 46; Akeem Olasupo, 35; Hammed Falola, 27; Alabi Babatunde 33; Ojetunde Hammed, 32; and 42 year-old Emeka Nnaji. Nnaji was accused of receiving the products.
It was gathered that the police had received information on May 14, 2015 on the alleged criminal activities of the suspects following which one Folaju Salako was arrested at Orgun area, Ikeja, Lagos with 160 pieces of GLO Inverter Batteries believed to be stolen.
It was gathered that the suspect claimed he was invited by one Balogun Adedayo, an employee at GLO warehouse at Morrison Crescent Oregun to help sell the batteries and bring the proceeds to him.
Salako allegedly claimed that it was his third time of doing the business with the GLO worker. He said that their first deal together involved 50 pieces which were sold at Alaba market, while the second involved 100pieces allegedly sold to one Emeka Nnaji at N22, 000 each also at Alaba market.
The suspect also confessed that he remitted N12, 000 each for the batteries to his GLO partner.
He confessed that the current batch of 160 pieces were sold to him at the rate of 16,000 each, and that he had contacted the Nnaji who bargained to buy them at for N22,000 each.
According to him, he was on his way to deliver the products to Nnaji at a location in Abule-Egba area of Lagos when he was arrested.
On interrogation, Balogun implicated other casual workers at the warehouse as his accomplices.
They were all arrested and charged with conspiracy and theft while Nnaji was charged with receiving to stolen goods.
The suspects were arraigned on 23rd July, 2015 before the Lagos Magistrate’s court 14 on three count charge of conspiracy, theft and receiving of stolen property.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties each who must be gainfully employed.
The matter was adjourned to 19th August, 2015.
